About

In 1983, armed with just a second hand Leyland Clydesdale Philip Ward set out on his own, hauling sand, gravel and other aggregates to local customers.

30+ years later and we are still doing that. Although we have gone from just Philip and the trusty Clydesdale to now have a 4 wheeler tipper, a 4 wheeler grab lorry, an 8 wheeler tipper, plus our trusty telehandler. It has not been easy but with an attitude of keeping our customers happy we have grown to where we are today.

Then, after 35 years of serving a wide range of clients, Philip & Jenny decided to expand the family business. On 7th May 2018, we become Philip B Ward Limited. We still operate in the exact same way, with high standards of service and customer relations, but we strengthened our management team with an additional director:

Philip Ward – Company Founder & Principal Director

Philip created the company in 1983, from small beginnings, to the successful and well known company of today. Over the years, he has undertaken a wide range of haulage and Groundworks projects, with a proactive, problem solving approach.

Matthew Ward – Haulage Director

Philip’s youngest son, Matthew, has been part of the family business since 2006. He specialises in the haulage side of the business, but with a well rounded knowledge of all departments. Matthew is responsible for maintaining ever challenging requirements of a modern Operators Licence, the current fleet of HGVs, LGVs, as well as the logistics involved with a competitive haulage industry.

Combined with support from Philip’s wife Jenny, we are excited to move forward and serve all our customers into the future.

Our aim hasn’t changed. Merging aspects of modern business with the personal approach that we all value.

As well as the aggregates we also now also offer our grab service on our 4 wheeler which is fairly unique and can get into the places the larger, more traditional 8 wheelers cannot.

With a small but trustworthy group of workers we are happy to supply a reliable service that you can count on.

We are big enough to cope with most jobs but small enough to care and give a personal approach.
